Are you ready to take your snowmobiling adventures beyond the trails and into the backcountry? Our Introduction to Backcountry Snowmobiling Clinic is designed for riders looking to build confidence, skills, and safety awareness in off-trail environments.

Whether you're brand new to backcountry riding or want a refresher on the essentials, this clinic covers everything you need to get started. We will teach riders how to prepare their snowmobile for a day in the backcountry and operate a snowmobile sufficiently on trails.

  • Backcountry Riding Basics
    Learn foundational techniques for navigating deep snow, varied terrain, and remote areas.

  • Safety & Avalanche Awareness
    Understand avalanche terrain, rescue procedures, and how to use essential safety gear like beacons, probes, and shovels.

  • Sled Setup & Gear Tips
    Get expert advice on snowmobile setup, maintenance, and what to pack for a safe day in the mountains.

  • Hands-On Practice
    Spend time on snow with experienced instructors who will guide you through drills, scenarios, and real-world backcountry skills.

Clinic Overview

Duration:  1 afternoon in shop 2 Full-days on the snow
Skill Level: Never have rode a snowmobile to beginner looking for a refresher
Location: Craig, Co Powder Bound Adventures shop
Age Requirement: 16+ with guardian consent

  • First time riders to beginner riders seeking skill-building

  • Anyone looking to improve safety knowledge and preparedness

What to Bring:

  • A capable mountain snowmobile “rentals available”

  • Avalanche safety gear (beacon, probe, shovel) “rentals available”

  • Appropriate riding gear for winter conditions “rentals available”

  • A sense of adventure!

What you will learn:

  • How to plan route trip for a day on the snow

  • How to prepare your sled and gear for a day on the snow

  • How to safely load and unload

  • How to do a pre ride safety and ride plan

  • Cornering techniques and safe turning “hard and soft snow”

  • Throttle control

  • Body positioning for balance and control “hard and soft snow

  • Navigating different snow conditions

  • Techniques to get unstuck

  • Ways to avoid getting stuck

  • How to get on edge

  • All above techniques learned on flat ground
